Currently, in the Massachusetts Senate Race:

Candidate Scott Brown Wins Mass. election; Could be decisive factor in Health Care Debate

On Tuesday, January 19, while Right to Life of Stark County was in their monthly board meeting, a huge blow was struck to President Obama's Health Care bill by newly elected Senatorial candidate, Scott Brown! Mark Stevenson, Executive Director of Right to Life of Stark County commented, "This couldn't have come at a better time, the eleventh hour." See coverage from MSNBC's web site. More immediately, Brown will become the 41st Republican in the 100-member Senate, which could allow the GOP to block the president's health care legislation and the rest of Obama's agenda. Democrats needed Coakley to win for a 60th vote to thwart Republican filibusters.

In a sample of seven towns where complete results are in, Coakley was running about 15 percentage points behind Obama’s 2008 percentages.

Obama won all of these towns in 2008: Hopkinton, Shrewsbury, Rockland, Reading, Woburn, North Andover, Ashland.  On Tuesday, Coakley lost all of them, by significant margins. This could spell big trouble for any plans of passing the liberal Senate version of Health Care. Stay tuned for more to come!

      Welcome to
RTL of Stark County
This web site is version two for us! We hope you take a look around. Most everything we do will show up here on our web portal as we continue to develop the maximum opportunities to connect with you, our constituent public, and keep you informed. For many years Right to Life chapters depended on a mailing list to communicate to the community at large. However, today, you see us utilizing technologies, such as the Internet and e-mail lists to activate volunteers in the greater Stark County area.  But this site is interactive. You have an opportunity to sign up for events, volunteer, view blogs, view local statistical content, participate in our forum area, read legislative news in Ohio and Washington, and comment on this site. News feeds on the Advocacy page to the left and Quick News, such as Habitat for Humanity considering building a Planned Parenthood facility. All right here on this site!

This site creates so many new opportunities for you to get to know us and join with us, entering into the advocacy role to protect life from conception to the end of natural life. You will also discover that we partner with other community groups to bring events and speakers that will interest you. If you surf this site, you will see we are active and have many community events. Please look around and see what we are doing. Join us!

Abby Johnson, Former Planned Parenthood Director

ABBY JOHNSON

Former Planned Parenthood Director

Abby Johnson quit her job. That simple act has become a national news story because Johnson, 29,

ABBY JOHNSON

was the director of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Texas who said she experienced a "change of heart" while participating in an abortion procedure. Johnson has now joined a group called Coalition for Life, which prays outside the clinic where she worked.

Interview with Mike Huckabee:

"I had never seen an abortion happen on an ultrasound," she said. "My job during the procedure was to hold the probe on the woman's abdomen. I could see the whole profile of the baby 13 weeks head to foot. I could see the whole side profile. I could see the probe. I could see the baby try to move away from the probe."

Johnson worked at the Planned Parenthood clinic in Bryan, Texas, for nine years, first as a volunteer and then as the director. Her duties included running the family planning and abortion programs. The clinic performed abortions two days a month. Although she had seen ultrasounds before, including during her own pregnancy, Johnson said she had never seen an ultrasound image during an abortion. She is unclear why, as the director of the clinic, she was asked to be in the procedure room on that day, because it was not a normal part of her duties. Still, Johnson said, the experience changed her forever. She knew it was time to leave after she watched the baby "crumple" as it was vacuumed out of a patient's uterus.

"I just thought, 'What am I doing?'" she said. "And then I thought, 'Never again.'I looked out the window and saw a couple of women praying and I thought, 'That's where I need to go.”

Stark County RTL'ers,

I know energy prices are high. Everyone in the United States knows about rising prices. But what does not get attention is that all non-profits suffer during challenging economic times. Churches that have been on a financial bubble are starting to shut down for lack of adequate support.

Currently, there is legislation pending in the Ohio General Assembly. We are THE pro-life advocacy organization here in Stark County. We funnel information to you, as a constituent, to lobby State House Representatives and State Senators, and give you their names and contact information. We explain the issues to you so you can give an informed reaction to legislation.

Hopefully, you are starting to see we are a legitimate source of information for you. We want to be here to keep you informed. But we need your help! Please consider either becoming a member of Right to Life of Stark County and/or giving a donation for the cause. Most recently, we informed you of the abortion mill that moved from Market Street in Akron to the City of Green. Folks, this is right at our back door! Please make out a check today! The Scripture says to not be weary of well doing because you will reap a reward, if you do not give up. Consider wrting out that check today. We won't let you down. The work will get done on our end.

Mark Stevenson, Executive Director, RTL of Stark County
