The federal health care bill is scheduled for a Congressional vote THIS WEEK and abortion funding is included in the bill.
We insist that the health care bill exclude abortion funding and include conscience rights for healthcare professionals. Today, the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) said: "WHEN ALL OF THE PRO-ABORTION PROVISIONS ARE CONSIDERED IN TOTAL, THE SENATE BILL IS THE MOST PRO-ABORTION SINGLE PIECE OF LEGISLATION THAT HAS EVER COME TO THE HOUSE FLOOR FOR A VOTE, SINCE ROE V. WADE."
PLEASE:
1) Email members of Congress and tell them (the following quote is from the National Committee for a Human Life Amendment website): "I urge you to work to uphold essential provisions against abortion funding, to include full conscience protection..."
Using the QUICK LINKS in the red box to the right make it easy to email your Congressperson.
Consider adding the following sentence to your email: For a thorough review of how abortion is included in the health care bill, please go to http://www.nrlc.org/AHC/USCCBrebuttalToJostOnHR3590.pdf to view the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' (USCCB) March 12 statement "WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE SENATE HEALTH CARE BILL ON ABORTION?
2) Call members of Congress at 202-224-3121 (the U.S. Capitol switchboard) or call their local offices. Phone numbers for all Ohio Representatives are provided in the red QUICK LINKS box to the right.
SUGGESTED MESSAGE FOR HOUSE MEMBERS
"I am pleased that the House health care bill maintains the longstanding policy against federal funding of abortion. On the other hand, the provisions on abortion funding in the current un-amended Senate health care bill are seriously deficient and unacceptable. I urge you to work to uphold essential provisions against abortion funding, to include full conscience protection and to ensure that health care is accessible and affordable for all. I urge you to oppose any bill unless and until these criteria are met."
SUGGESTED MESSAGE FOR SENATORS
"I am deeply disappointed that the current un-amended Senate health care bill fails to maintain the longstanding policy against federal funding of abortion and does not include adequate protection for conscience. I urge you to support essential provisions against abortion funding, similar to those in the House bill. Include full conscience protection and ensure that health care is accessible and affordable for all. I urge you to oppose any bill unless and until these criteria are met."
As you know, each person's email and phone call makes a difference! Please email AND call members of Congress.
Forwarding this message using the link below is a great pro-life activity!
VULNERABLE DEMOCRATS
BLUE DOG COALITION MEMBERS STUPAK SUPPORTERS

The Congresspersons listed below are top priority to contact concerning the attempted takeover of America's healthcare and use of tax dollars to fund abortion, denial of conscience rights to those in medical professions and denial of life, care and protection to the unborn, disabled and elderly.
Included with the contact info is the reason why the representative is considered "vulnerable" and a potential vote AGAINST the takeover of health care.
Also below are the Blue Dog Coalition members and the Stupak supporters, all of whom represent potential votes against the healthcare bill which includes funding for abortion.
Please contact as many as you are able, especially those representing Ohio. THANK YOU.
Rep. Brian Baird, Washington 3rd
http://www.baird.house.gov/ http://boccieri.house.gov/ http://boccieri.house.gov/
DC Office Number: (202) 225-3876, DC Fax Number: (202) 225-3059
Local Office Number: (330) 489-4414, Local Fax Number: (330) 489-4448
Reasoning: Boccieri has turned out to be a lesser priority for the NRCC than fellow Ohio freshmen Kilroy and Driehaus. He has recently sounded open to supporting the bill.
Rep. Bart Gordon, Tennessee 6th (not seeking re-election this fall)
http://gordon.house.gov/
DC Office Number: (202) 225-4231, DC Fax Number: (202) 225-6887
Local Office Number: (615) 896-1986
Reasoning: He's retiring, which puts him right at the top of the Democrats' priority list, since the GOP can't pressure him with electoral reasons. He is a Blue Dog. A very important detail: He voted for the bill in the Energy & Commerce Committee before opposing it on the floor, which certainly suggests he'd be open to voting for it now.
Rep. Larry Kissell, North Carolina 8th
http://kissell.house.gov/ http://www.altmire.house.gov/ http://www.altmire.house.gov/
DC Office Number: (202) 225-2565, DC Fax Number: (202) 226-2274
Local Office Number: (724) 378-0928, Local Fax Number: (724) 378-6171
Reasoning: Despite a few hints of openness to supporting a bill, he has sounded very hostile to healthcare reform, and the abortion issue should seal his "NO." He's a Blue Dog.
Rep. John Adler, New Jersey 3rd
http://adler.house.gov/
DC Office Number: (202) 225-4765, DC Fax Number: (202) 225-0778
Local Office Number: (732) 608-7235, Local Fax Number: (732) 608-7268
Reasoning: Adler has done his best to position himself as a centrist over the past few months, and he is facing a tricky race. However, he is less vulnerable than many others on this list, and he represents a district that clearly voted for Obama. That puts him right at the top of Pelosi's target list.
Rep. John Barrow, Georgia 12th
http://www.barrow.house.gov/
DC Office Number: (202) 225-2823, DC Fax Number: (202) 225-3377
Local Office Number: (706) 722-4494, Local Fax Number: (706) 722-4496
Rep. Allen Boyd, Florida 2nd
http://boyd.house.gov/
DC Office Number: (202) 225-5235, DC Fax Number: (202) 225-5615
Local Office Number: (850) 561-3979, Local Fax Number: (850) 681-2902
Reasoning: At this point, this Blue Dog has more to worry about in the Democrat primary than in the general election. He's a Blue Dog.
Rep. Rick Boucher, Virginia 9th
http://www.boucher.house.gov/
DC Office Number: (202) 225-3861, DC Fax Number: (202) 225-0442
Local Office Number: (276) 628-1145
Reasoning: Boucher looks far more vulnerable now than he did in the fall, which will complicate Pelosi's outreach.
Rep. Ben Chandler, Kentucky 6th
http://chandler.house.gov/
DC Office Number: (202) 225-4706, DC Fax Number: (202) 225-2122
Local Office Number: (859) 219-1366, Local Fax Number: (859) 219-3437
Reasoning: The filing deadline has passed in Kentucky, and while the race could heat up, Chandler doesn't have to worry about facing a top-tier Republican. Will this encourage him to vote "yes"? He did support Cap-and-Trade. He's a Blue Dog.
Rep. Tim Holden, Pennsylvania 17th
http://www.holden.house.gov/
DC Office Number: (202) 225-5546, DC Fax Number: (202) 226-0996
Local Office Number: (610) 921-3502, Local Fax Number: (610) 921-3504
Reasoning: He's a Blue Dog, and he is facing his first tough re-election race in some time.
Rep. Suzanne Kosmas, Florida, 24th
http://www.kosmas.house.gov/
DC Office Number: (202) 225-2706, DC Fax Number: (202) 226-6299
Local Office Number: (407) 208-1106, Local Fax Number: (407) 208-1108
Reasoning: She has emerged as a fairly centrist Democrat, so I'd be somewhat surprised if she switches, but her district is not as red as others on this list.
Rep. Frank Kratovil, Maryland 1st
http://kratovil.house.gov/
DC Office Number: 202-225-5311, DC Fax Number: 202-225-0254
Local Office Number: (443) 262 -9136, Local Fax Number: (443) 262 - 9713
Reasoning: If Pelosi convinces him that he will lose anyway, he may vote for it.
Rep. Betsy Markey, Colorado 4th
http://betsymarkey.house.gov/
DC Office Number: (202) 225-4676, DC Fax Number: (202) 225-5870
Local Office Number: (970) 221-7110, Local Fax Number: (970) 221-7240
Reasoning: She's a Blue Dog. The Democratic leadership let her be the main sponsor of the bill that repealed the anti-trust exemption - perhaps she might repay them by voting "Yes."
Rep. Jim Matheson, Utah 2nd
http://www.house.gov/matheson/
DC Office Number: (202) 225-3011, DC Fax Number: (202) 225-5638
Local Office Number: (801) 486-1236, Local Fax Number: (801) 486-1417
Reasoning: Would be surprised if he votes "Yes," but in recent comments, he was less hostile than other Blue Dogs. He's a Blue Dog.
Rep. Michael E. McMahon, New York 13th
http://mcmahon.house.gov/
DC Office Number: (202) 225-3371, DC Fax Number: (202) 226-1272
Local Office Number: (718) 351-1062, Local Fax Number: (718) 980-0768
Rep. Mike McIntyre, North Carolina 7th
http://www.house.gov/mcintyre/
DC Office Number: (202) 225-2731, DC Fax Number: (202) 225-5773
Local Office Number: (910) 735-0610, Local Fax Number: (910) 739-5085
Reasoning: The filing deadline passed in North Carolina, and the GOP failed to recruit a credible challenger despite the district's red lean. While McIntyre is conservatie, this alone makes him a target to leadership pressure. He's a Blue Dog.
Rep. Walt Minnick, Idaho 1st
http://minnick.house.gov/
DC Office Number: (202) 225-6611, DC Fax Number: (202) 225-3029
Local Office Number: (208) 888-3188, Local Fax Number: (208) 888-0894
Rep. Glenn C. Nye III, Virginia, 2nd
http://nye.house.gov/index.html
DC Office Number: (202) 225-4215, DC Fax Number: (202) 225-4218
Local Office Number: (757) 326-6201, Local Office Fax: (757) 326-6209
Reasoning: He's a Blue Dog freshman, who faces a tough race in November - a tough combination for Pelosi. However, he also represents one of the few Obama districts on this list, so he is sure to face more pressure than others.
Rep. Collin C. Peterson, Minnesota 7th
http://collinpeterson.house.gov/
DC Office Number: (202) 225-2165, DC Fax Number: (202) 225-1593
Local Office Number: (218) 847-5056
Reasoning: He's a Blue Dog as well as a Committee chairman.
Rep. Ike Skelton, Missouri 4th
http://www.house.gov/skelton/
DC Office Number: (202) 225-2876
Local Office Number: (816) 228-4242
Reasoning: He's a Blue Dog. The abortion issue could prevent Pelosi from convincing him.
Rep. John Tanner, Tennessee 8th (not seeking re-election this fall)
http://tanner.house.gov/
DC Office Number: (202) 225-4714, DC Fax Number: (202) 225-1765
Local Office Number: (731) 885-7070, Local Fax Number: (731) 885-7094
Reasoning: His retirement is prompting talks that he might be more willing to help his party, although, he looks more likely to do so than Baird and Gordon. He's a Blue Dog.
